About Engineering News-Record (ENR)

ENR traces its roots to two 19th-century journals. The Engineer and Surveyor, first published in 1874, became Engineering News, while The Plumber and Sanitary Engineer became Engineering Record. The two titles came under the Hill and McGraw publishing companies, which merged in 1917 to form McGraw-Hill, and the magazines were combined as Engineering News-Record.

ENR stayed with McGraw-Hill for most of the following century. In 2014 McGraw-Hill sold McGraw-Hill Construction, including ENR, to Symphony Technology Group, and on 1 July 2015 the magazine was sold to BNP Media together with Architectural Record. ENR now publishes print and digital issues, regional editions, newsletters and its annual top company rankings from a main office in Birmingham, Michigan.
