About buildingSMART Australasia

buildingSMART Australasia is a chapter of buildingSMART International, which began in 1994 as the International Alliance for Interoperability (IAI), a consortium of 12 US companies. The IAI became an open, not-for-profit organisation in 1995 promoting the Industry Foundation Classes (IFC), and changed its name to buildingSMART in 2005.

The Australasian chapter dates its launch to 2000. It is a not-for-profit public company limited by guarantee, governed by a board drawn from New South Wales and New Zealand, and works on advocacy to government, industry engagement and the PCERT professional certification and training programme.
