About BIM Fórum Brasil

BIM Fórum Brasil grew out of Brazil's national BIM strategy. After a 2016 UK and Brazil memorandum on BIM and the 2017 creation of a federal BIM strategy committee, the construction industry chamber CBIC and SENAI Nacional commissioned a study in late 2018 of more than 50 similar bodies in over 40 countries. Eight of them used the name BIM Forum, and the study recommended that the new Brazilian body be called BIM Fórum Brasil. An interim board of eight BIM specialists then led its formal creation.

Its governance is designed so that no single group controls it. In 2023 it created buildingSMART Brasil, the Brazilian chapter of buildingSMART, which individual professionals can join.
